It is funny how enterprising students can be. Some of them have been selling CDs of the conversation at P5 each. They say it will help them cope with the rise in tuition, plus do their bit in spreading the word. When policemen tried to buy from them, they gave them free CDs. Blank CDs, that it. Smart kids.

I would beg to disagree on grounds that realpolitik - politics based on practical concerns rather than theory or ethics - seems to be the current policy of governance under teh arroyo administration.

One of the most famous proponents of realpolitik was Niccolò Machiavelli, best known for his Il Principe (The Prince) (pb.1532). Machiavelli held that the sole aim of a prince was to seek power, regardless of religious or ethical considerations.

Kung ganito na lang ang klaseng politika natin, wala ng Pilipinas na pwedeng ipagmalaki ang susunod na henerasyon. Mga lider ng lipunan mismo ang syang nagpapabaon sa sariling anak.

Ikinahihiya ko ang maging isang Pinoy. Dahil lang sa pekeng kapangyarihan.

i think somebody should hire one of those roving ad trucks that play music and plug in the Hello Garci ring tone. the truck (or trucks) should go about town and circle government blocks and military camps. her (ex) generals, not being particularly poilitically savvy, patriotic or wise, are giving her false hopes that everything is ok.

gloria, i heard, doesnt read newspapers and the people around her are scared of her. this fear serves as an effective screener that shields gloria from what’s going on. coupled with inept advisers this fear seals the bubble gloria is living in.

Hello (Garci?) How can I get the ring tone? I had it downloaded already to my computer (from this site, in MP3 format) but my problem is how to transfer it to my cell phone (a lowly Nokia 3320). I am planning to send it to friends to shame the GMA administration (a daunting task, considering that GMA doesn’t need a Kevlar bullet-proof vest if ever she visits Iraq. I am very sure all those sharpnel would just bounce off harmlessly, given her ded-ma attitude to what’s going on).

To all of you guys out there, do not believe what Raul Gonzales is telling. I am a lawyer and I know he cannot put you behind bars by mere possession of those tapes, or even the ring tone (ha ha ha, how desperate!). They could not even charge Ong with that, all they could come up with is inciting to sedition, which even first year law students will tell you, as Homobono Adaza said, will not even hold water!

Quite right. But Machiavelli was counselling the Borgias who were running Florence for an extended period of time. The Prince was his attempt at advising them on how best to wield it. This president does not even know how to use it to keep her hold over those below her as well as her own family. Her’s is the worst type of governance, hence it is not entirely implausible to describe GMA’s goverment as kakistocratic.

I wish instead of hitting at the government or at anyone, we could suggest how each of us, in our own little way, help the Philippines get back on its feet again. No single entity like a corrupt government or an apathetic citizenry defines what the Philippines is. During times like this, the country needs patriots who will ask themselves what they can do for their country and not what their country can do for them….I personally hate corruption anywhere if the antidote to corruption is available in the drugstore, I would have bought the whole supply. Until that happens, let us give our own little contribution…

Does anyone honestly think that the group of people who would like to replace Arroyo are better? They are hungrier, more vicious, and start from where the incumbent left off with impunity. This is a vicious circle where those in power perpetrate themselves by buying off the masses who have no choice but to grab the temporal material gain being offered to them by those in power during election period. What we can do for now is to break our heads in finding out how the current government can have a paradigm shift, a radical change, a wake up call. This must start somewhere if we need to break out of the vicious circle. For starters, I believe we need to inculcate among everyone the love for country. I have yet to see a korean driving a japanese car or whose cellphone is not a Samsung or anything made in Korea. I hope I will see this happening in the Philippines in my lifetime…

I think you missed the point. the issue is not who will take over the place of G.ARROYO she has damaged the country and its people more than any leader can ever repeat ever do. During the election, the politiczed sector even said: “Anyone but Gloria.”

The feeling now, not only of the opposition but also of the respondents of the survey who gave her negative 33 per cent performance rating, is that there can be no other other Gloria probably not in a hundred years. If Filipinos get better, because the children of the thieves had also emigrated to other countries, then there will not be another Gloria, not in a thousand years.

Do people honestly think, that noli de castro, ping lacson, JPE, Susan Roces, Frank Driloon, Loren legarda, Erap, etc. etc. etc. can be better than Gloria in maladministration, in destroying decaying institutions. I don’t think so. Could these trapos be worse than Gloria in all that she has done and will probably do in the future? I don’t think so.

God, If I am living the good life now, why change Gloria. If she has caused my good life, if her administration has had no advese effect on me and my family. why rock the boat. I am not in Tondo, not in Payatas, nor am I living along the railroads. Do I honestly believe that we can find somebody with a Phd in Economics to replace Gloria. Of course not. let the Country be damned as it is now.

Masyado bang idealistic ang mga ito? Ilan pa lang ito sa pwede nating gawin. Madami pang pwede. Hindi ba ito kayang gawin ng mga Pilipino? Ano pa ang maari kong gawin kung ako nabubuhay below poverty level at hindi ko pwede magawa ang mga ito? Pwede nyo dagdagan ang mga nakalista dito.
