Cory repeats call for Arroyo to resign

FIRST she spoke extemporaneously, saying no matter what flak she will again get, she will speak.
Former president Corazon Aquino, after a celebration of the Holy Mass at the De La Salle University in Manila, said she had no choice. Since Ninoy [her husband former Sen. Beningo Aquino Jr.] gave up his life for us, I too have staked everything I have for the country)."
The former president lauded the former Cabinet members who on July 8 resigned and called on Arroyo to quit. "They could have just kept quiet but they deemed their duty was to us the Filipino people. We need more Filipinos like them."
Quoting heavily from the CBCP pastoral letter, Mrs. Aquino then read from a prepared speech, repeating the call she made three days ago: President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo should make the supreme sacrifice and step down. Her statement:
Let me thank Bro. Armin for inviting me today to join all of you in prayer. Indeed this is a very swift response to our bishops who yesterday said, and I quote, "We urge ouir people in our parish and in our religious communities, our religious organizations and movements, our Basic Ecclesial Communities to come and pray together, reason, decide and act together, always to the end the will of God prevail in the political order. People of good will and credibility who hold different political convictions should come together and dialogue in order to help move the country out of its present impasse. We believe with Pope Benedict XVI that through prayer the Filipino people and their political representatives and leaders, guided by moral principles, are capable of arriving at decisions for the common good that are based not only political realities but above all on moral precepts."
De La Salle University has provided me with the third venue in what I hope to be a continuing program of my praying with our people in schools and churches as we seek enlightenment from our Almighty God to help us resolve this present political crisis. We pray for our leaders especially for the President and the Vice president and all who serve in government. Again let me quote from the CBCP statement: "In the present situation we believe that no single concrete option regarding President Macapagal-Arroyo can claim to be the only one demanded by the Gospel. Therefore, in a spirit of humility and truth, we declare our prayerfully discerned collective decision that we do not demand her resignation. Yet neither do we encourage her simply to dismiss such a call from others. For we recognize that nonviolent appeals for her resignation, the demand for a Truth Commission and the filing of an impeachment case are not against the Gospel."
In this connection let me repeat what I said three days ago.
At this juncture only two constitutional paths remain open for the peaceful and democratic resolution of the present crisis crippling the government and endangering the nation.
The first and most expeditious is the President’s voluntary resignation for a smooth transition to her constitutional successor, the vice president, and a swift return to normalcy for the country. This is the fastest and most orderly path to take.
The second path is the long and inherently contentious process of a congressional impeachment that can only generate more divisions in society and cast more suspicions on the threatened institutions of our democracy.
I ask the President to spare our country and herself from this second option and make the supreme sacrifice of resigning.
Even as you and I continue in praying for a swift and just resolution to our present political problem, may I appeal to your generous heart to continue being involved in activities for the poor like the Gawad Kalinga and the microfinance programs. A year ago, the Aquino Foundation partnered with the Assissi Foundation in establishing the ASA Foundation which is currently involved in micro lending activities here in Metro Manila. For those of you who are interested in microfinance, I will be happy to refer you to the ASA Foundation and other microfinance organizations.
Thank you very much for joining me in prayer today and let us continue praying for our country in word and in deed. God bless you. God bless the Christian Brothers. God bless De La Salle University.

The problem with Tita Cory is– she speaks candidly and truthfully.
Gloria do what Tita Cory says and you will earn back my respect.
I don’t think Gloria Arroyo’s resignation would solve our political problem and return us to normalcy. It would be naive to think thaT the opposition would stop their attacks when Noli de Castro takes over.
It is the political system that we should change. Not another president. Have we already proven that Arroyo committed anything illegal? Why crucify a person based on mere speculation? Is that what we call justice? Is that what Cory has discerned?
During Cory Aquino’s administration people were also asking for her resignation. Did she resign?
president cory, thank you for speaking your mind as you must. yes, we do hear you and we believe.
and dont forget gma was plotting already against estrada one year before edsa 2, and if you will read tribune’s saturdey edition juan miguel zubiri was saying it took them three years to oust Erap. Ibig sabihin pag sila gumawa kabayanihan…pag sila ginawan, traydor daw.
mga hypocrites
imam cory if you are really sincere about the resignation of gloria pls let us join hands this wednesday at makati.
calling all filipino people wag na natin siya patagalin pa sa malacaÑang baka unti-unti na niya linalabas yung kaban ng bayan.
Escuse me but if its choosing between ms aquino and ms arroyo ill go for the latter.
I hope everybody who make their stand regarding the issues will not retract their statement. Good for Cory. She is firmed with his statement. How about the others? Will they make a big tunaround? Specially now that PGMA is again gaining ground to stay in malacanang. But who knows she might also make a surprise announcement in the SONA. But that is really a small possibility.
I’m just wondering bakit hindi nagtatagumpay yung mga inoorganize na rally everyday para bumaba na si PGMA kahit inamin na niya na she talk to the commisioner of comelec last election? They said people’s power fatigue? But i don’t think so…
Jonathan you have a naughty mind!
TO PCIJ:
THANK YOU FOR “PRACTICING WHAT YOU PREACH”.
I suggest you put a caveat below your blog title: “some comments contrary to opinions we espouse will be deleted.”
btw: my comments were not obscene, immoral, personal attack, etc.
but i submit this is your blog, you can do whatever you please.
Thank you again.
The CBCP may not have openly adopted a GMA RESIGN position but thank God they did not clear the name of GMA as well.
They have now clearly stated, different from 1986 and 2001 that the Church is not a political organization and cannot recommend a specific political option. Indeed, very much different but much more proper than the Church position in 1986 and 2001.
They have now relinquisged the task of ousting an erring national political leader like GMA to us, the sovereign Filipino people. Thank you Bishops! We laymen are now free while you do your job of saving the souls of millions of Filipinos which you probably have not given enolugh attention in the past due to your preoccupation with mundane matters.
LONG LIVE THE SOVEREIGN FILIPINO WILL. ON IT LIES THE FUTURE OUSTER OF A PUBLIC OFFENDER, ALREADY FORGIVEN BUT HAS NOT DONE AN ACT OF EXPIATION.

There are obscene and obnoxious comments that are left untouched here. Mine was about calling the Ateneans in government to reconsider staying inoffice to defend GMA.
And I was declared being bad karma. That is unfair. Go back to your digest of blogs and you’ll see some really fopul language and cheap cvomments.
What is your basis fopr considering mine karma? Isn’t your objective to present a balanced and decent exchange of views?

Bro & Sis,

“BANGON BAGONG PINOY” by D. Pedro
Kasi lahat sila bulok, lahat sila walang kwenta. Lahat sila sugapa sa kapangyarihan at sa pera.
ANAK NG TETENG! !$#%Q!&!* @!!!!! KAHIT KRISTIYANO AKO, HINDI KO MAPIGILANG MAGMURA AT HILINGIN SA DIYOS (MINSAN NGA PATI SA DEMONYO) NA MAMATAY NA SILANG LAHAT AT I-BBQ SILA NG HABANG-BUHAY SA IMPIERNO.
SINONG “SILA”?
PUNYETA! MASA LANG BA ANG TAO SA PILIPINAS? SINO BA TALAGA ANG BUMUBUHAY SA PUNYETANG BANSANG TO? SAAN BA GALING ANG PANGPAGAWA NG MGA TULAY AT KALYE? SAAN BA GALING ANG PORK BARREL? SAAN BA GALING ANG PERANG KINUKURAKOT NYO? KAMI NA MGA MANGGAGAWA AT MIDDLE CLASS NA BAGO PA MAKUHA ANG SWELDO BAWAS NA - KAMI ANG BUMUBUHAY SA WALANG KWENTANG BANSA NA ‘TO!!!!!!!!! BAKIT YANG BANG MGA MASANG YAN NA LAGI NA LANG SENTRO NG PLATAPORMA NG MGA PULITIKO EH NAGBABAYAD BA NG TAX???!!!!
F**K YOU!
YUNG MGA MAGULANG NAMAN DYAN, COMMON SENSE LANG! HIRAP NA HIRAP NA NGA KAYO SA BUHAY, MANGDADAMAY PA KAYO NG IBA?! PAPARAMIHAN NYO PA LAHI NYO!
maduming lugar - SOLVE!
PUNYETA! EH HINDI RIN KAYO NAGBABAYAD NG TAX! ANG KAKAPAL RIN NG MGA MUKHA NYO!
MGA IPOKRITO! MAHAL DAW ANG PILIPINAS AYAW NAMAN MAGBAYAD NG BUWIS! BAKIT MAY BIR COLLECTOR BA SA GITNA NG MENDIOLA AT EDSA?! MAY TAX COLLECTION BA SA BUNDOK?!
WALA DIN NAMAN KAYONG MGA TRABAHO! KUNG MAY TRABAHO TALAGA KAYO, HINDI KAYO MAG-RA-RALLY DAHIL SAYANG ANG SWELDO NYO PAG ABSENT KAYO! PAANO NYO MAIPAPAKITA ANG PAGMAMAHAL NYO SA PILIPINAS KUNG WALA NA KAYONG GAWANG MATINO KUNDI MAG-RALLY AT MAMUNDOK??!!!
ISA PA YANG MGA MAYAYAMAN AT MGA ARTISTA, NA NANGDADAYA AT HINDI NAGBABAYAD NG BUWIS. ANG KAKAPAL NG MUKHA NYO! ANG DAMI NYO NA NGANG PERA NANGDADAYA PA KAYO SA TAX!!!! HINDI NYO NAMAN MADADALA SA IMPIERNO YANG MGA KAYAMAN NYO. MASUSUNOG LANG DUN YAN.
KAYA LALONG BUMABAGSAK ANG NEGOSYO DITO SA PILIPINAS, KASI MGA NEGOSYANTE MANDARAYA. PATI SHOWBIZ INDUSTRY, BAGSAK NA DIN. KARMA ANG TAWAG DYAN. MGA BALASUBAS KASI.
Sana magkaron ng POLITICAL AND NATIONAL CLEANSING.
I love you Zechs! I love you Treize!)
Doomed to be jologs ang bansang to.
Good luck and God bless! Sana tama kayo at mali ako.

Inuulit po namin… sorry po.
Personally I have nothing against gma.
She (Cory) said it three days ago, there’s no need to repeat herself. Another grandstanding move. She was redeeming herself already but now she can no longer hide her true colors. She should have saved the Filipino people a couple of years if she resigned earlier on her term. She did nothing for the Filipinos during her term. Please don’t tell me she is the mother of democracy.
Didn’t GMA save her from the crisis that would have erupted from the Hacienda Luisita fiasco?
Didn’t GMA’s economic managers draft our financial programs that made her unpopular? And they ask her to resign? Arrogante!
“Escuse me but if its choosing between ms aquino and ms arroyo ill go for the latter. ”
you are right PENPEN.
certainly between a mejo bobo and sobrang liar na cheater pa… I go for the mejo bobo.
former pla hehehe.. sorry folks typo…
YOu are so hypocrite Mr. Defensor.
GMA and all GMA’s men should resign. Including Winston Garcia. Why complain about election rigging in Mindanao but not in Cebu? Why decry corruption in Malacanang but not in GSIS? Why denounce jueteng kickbacks yet ignore payoffs in the GSIS-SSS-BDO conspiracy over Equitable PCI Bank?

talk of having AMNESIA???
kidlat,
Before you accuse us of anything, please note that you’re not the first one who has complained about their comments not getting posted on the blog. Let me assure you that it’s not deliberate. There’s no policy in this blog that only the comments we like get posted. If that were the case, you wouldn’t get to read comments of the pompous, self-righteous, condescending, and incoherent kind, gramatically incorrect even.
Your messages are automatically checked by an anti-spam plugin (it’s set to normal; we can have a stricter option to guard against spammers and trolls but we don’t). Since you say that your comment is not in any way “obscene, immoral, personal attack, etc.,” could it then be a case of double, triple or multiple posting of the same comment, that it’s too long (comments over 1,000 characters get truncated although there have been really long ones that are able to get through), or that there are issues with invalid IP address? The plugin ensures that the IP address is consistent with what you have used before.
When any of these happens, the comment is set for moderation. Honestly, I haven’t seen your message in the comment moderation list. Otherwise, I would have emailed you about the matter and encouraged you to try again, or even posted it myself. As a remedy, I try to post those that get automatically deleted, at least those that are still in the comment digest.
Certainly, your comment is always welcome.
Thanks.. kabayan
For once I thought Cory Aquino wouldn’t live to the ideals that Ninoy fought and died for. I was wrong. Cory made the right deicision. This now a battle for morality. Can you allow kidnapping of people just to cheat in an election??? I can live with faked election returns but kidnapping people that I can’t stomach. Its like Marcos torturing human rights activist. WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To Alecks Pabico…
Leo,
Didn’t see your posts either. The anti-spam plugin is acting strange really. Kindly re-post it again. If you sense that it’s something that has to be kept private, please email it to pcij@pcij.org.
HOW long are we going to JUET, ms. arroyo?
The country is JUETENG…
GOODNESS, BATO BA TALAGA ANG PUSO MO?
…O baka nmn, WLA KANG PUSO AT ‘DI MO MAHAL ANG BAYAN?
ARROYO WILL NEVER RESIGN!
THE TIME TO ACT IS NOW!
SA AKING MGA KAPATID NA NANINIWALANG MAY PAG ASA PANG MABAGO ANG PILIPINAS, TULAD NYO NA MAY ANAK NA BINUBUHAY PARA MAGKAROON NG MAGADANG KINABUKASAN, NGAYON NA ANG ORAS.
SA MYERKULES, AKOY BUONG PUSONG NANANAWAGAN. PARA SA ATING MGA ANAK, SA ATING INANG BAYAN,
IBAGSAK SI GLORIA!
Alecks Pabico,
I posted a letter to my fellow Ateneans in Government to remind them of their moral duty to shepherd GMA in this time of soul-searching.
If I’m not mistaken, nakita ko siya na-post but then the following day, my other message was rejected by spamkarma(?), wala naman objectionable na laman.
Gusto tumuloy. Papano ba? Rescue naman bosing!!!

Alecks Pabico,
Salamat. OK na naman. Tuloy ang pakikibaka! Salamat talaga!

To Alecks Pabico…
Leo please divulge any info you have for we the silent majority are interested to know. Personally i agree with your sentiment that there’s more to ramos than what meets the eye. Nung term nya nagsimula yung massive devaluation of the peso, rampant kidnapping among others di ba?. I also think he’s an opportunist. At kung sincere sya of his patriotism to the country then he should just fade away. He has done enough damage already. He’s policy of concentrating on manufacturing rather than focusing on agriculture is a sham and a failure, kasi now halos wla na tayong manufacturing sector to speak of. puro imported nalang. Tapos yung PPA pa. In my view he should be held acccountable for it, if possible sya nalang mag bayad.
This morning, I was listening on the radio while on my way to the office. Some radio announcer was talking to some governor.. I goes something like this..
Radio Announcer: So sir, you’re saying that telling GMA to resign is unconstitutional, right?
Governor: That’s right. We cannot force the president to resign. It should be voluntary.
Radio Announcer: So what happened in EDSA 2 when people called for Erap to resign is unconstitutional too.. right?
Governor: No. It’s constitutional. Erap had to resign because he lost his power when the military withdrawn their support.
Radio Announcer: So if the military would withdraw their support to GMA, it will be constitutional for people to tell GMA to resign.. right?
Governor: No. It will still be unconstitutional..
Radio Announcer: How come?
Governor: This is the problem with some media men..
Radio Announcer: And this is the problem with some governors…
Governor: You’re bias! (Hangs-up)
It’s very ammusing to hear some people struggle to defend Arroyo. ^_^
jonathan, sobrang tulog lang yan. mandaraya’t engot talaga si gma. walang duda. at puppet pa siya ngayon. tabako to the rescue! i wish there IS a transpacific travel reimbursement. good that you mentioned styrofoams–mike d aka gma’s fair-haired boy should be objecting to the use of styrofoams instead of lying for his puppet amo.

Mind telling us who that governor is darren?? Para naman malaman ng mga provincemates nya kung gano sya ka bias in favor of gloria.. tnx.
I didn’t get the name but he’s the governor of Bohol. ^_^
Darren, let me share my 2-cents worth. I dont think telling GMA to resign is unconstitutional otherwise lahat iyong nagrarally ngayon pinaghuhuli na sana. When the military withdrew support from Erap, he abandoned his official residence, and although he did not actually resign, he was deemed to have de facto resigned. Had he stayed and waited for the lynch mob to topple him, their act is not constitutional but revolutionary. Realizing their folly, the Edsa 2 organizers had to immediately install GMA who until the last moment was a hesitant participant, to make the ‘revolution’ constitutional. That is why there is a lot of focus on Noli right now because of this ‘constitutionality’ factor. But see, wais si GMA, nagset-up cya ng second Malacanang sa Cebu kaya medyo complicated ang mangyayari kung mapeople power cya dito sa Manila and then she will fly to Cebu to continue her reign there.
by the way, masha dearest, gising ka na pala. well, umpisahan na ang pakikibaka!!
Jonathan
Iyan nga problema namin eh!….pasahe lang at pagkain….. (bakit alam mo maalat?)……
KASI ALAM KO IBINIGAY SA INYO BRAND NEW COMPUTER!…..
Kaya ba sabayan kota?…… baka manakit ang daliri mo, marami kami dito…..
tsaka’ wag masiyado dito……..baka di mo makumpleto kota mo sa text…. bawiin yan cellphone mo!…..ikaw rin…..
Madam Cory Aquino, you have already delivered your statement on the issue. Please do not divide the nation by forcing your opinion on others. Most people would rather follow due process and stick to the tents of the constitution…the same constitution drafted during your administration. We want to mature as a people and want to move on to better ways in dealing with our present problem instead of following the old route of the mob rule.
^ Bakit di nyo sinabi kay Cory yan noong 2001? Baket ngayon lang?
Eto pa…. LAVINIA in case you forgot… it was the mob rule in MANILA that freed us from the dictator… Thanks to that mob rule. Also thanks to MANILA, i can now enjoy AYALA mall and SM mall in cebu. BEfore… GAISANO department stores lang.
and thanks to the PEOPLE in MANILA, umabot na rin sa cebu ang jollibee, mc do, at marami pang iba.
and thanks to the mob in MANILA na install si GMA na gustong-gusto ni LAVINIA. and thanks to the mob rule in MANILA… maalis rin si GMA.
Thanks to MANILA and MANILA’s mob rule. Because of this rule, corrupt politicians can not just lay fast asleep and smiling over their corruption.
GO on MANILA.. lets continue to show to the WORLD that we are not sleeping. We are awake and we will continue to be awake watching over our corrupt officials.
I LOVE YOU MANILA.
……..Realizing their folly, the Edsa 2 organizers had to immediately install GMA who until the last moment was a hesitant participant, to make the ‘revolution’ constitutional.
Really? GMA revealed in one of her speeches just after the Edsa 2 that they were already planning to topple Erap one year before Edsa 2 happened (remember General Spine?)
Madame GMA the constitution is not the problem, you are the problem.
AMIDST PHILIPPINE POLITICAL CRISIS BROUGHT ABOUT BY PGMA & HER COHORTS: Gloria should heed Cory’s call to resign for the country’s good

The recent turn of events in the Philippine political arena brought about by the Gloria gate CD/Audio tape& jueteng scandals jointly feasted by family members, relatives & party mates of the president had lost its dormancy from the public’s consciousness eventually erupting like hell smacking right at our economy & morale as a nation, likely threatening to infect as well our democratic institutions & character as a people. Its impact, which showed dismal results & after-effects of tsunami magnitude caused another installment brownouts & blackouts to our view & quest for survival & air pockets towards our path of nation-building.
Shattered, devastated, battered, angered, feeling likely cheated & fooled by the people in power including their wannabes, the power players or political kingpins, most of us lay helpless but not hopeless, angered but not bitter, broken but not totally damaged because all if not most of us still harbor the thought of hope after all these had converged & finally subsided, amidst a battlefield & barrage of attacks to & from society’s opposing & broad moral, religious & political spectrum. But first, heads must roll.
My wife & I had both been active & inactive participants of people power I & II, which I believed had pristine & genuine significance for their inception & fruition, evolution & success. And most likely, we would not hesitate to join a third in a row once clear & present threats to our survival as a nation will be held hostage by the leech-like seizure to power & arrogance of the current leadership even if signs, symptoms & destiny beckons otherwise.
A welcome respite however, is madam Cory Aquino’s call, along that of senate president Franklin Drilon & his select Liberal Party mates consisting of Noynoy Aquino, Nereus Acosta, Rudolfo Biazon, Francis Pangilinan, et al, together with GMA’s ten topnotch cabinet members among them the likes of Purisima, Florencio Abad, Dinky Soliman, Deles, San Juan, Nicolas, Parayno, etc. , for PGMA’s resignation in view of her supreme sacrifice for the nation or our already embattled economy & democracy will further plunge to the abyss. Likewise, those resignation calls made by the men & women in the religious sector, headed by Fr. Robert despite the indirect & safe stand waged by the collegial CBCP which has dismayed a lot of those attending their flock, for PGMA to resign reflected a tectonic-plate revolution or shift that is otherwise irreversible in view of PGMA’s hold, credibility or mandate with the people. After all, with the Gloria gate CD/Audio tape & jueteng scandals, who else would follow a leader who says one thing & does otherwise?
Enough of fooling around with the people, as this does not work all the time. Enough of Fidel V. Ramos & his army of military men such as Ermita, Mendoza, Wycoco, Reyes, Abadia et al scratching & holding Gloria’s back against the wall, tabako working as a defacto president in light of his & that of his military men’s vested interest in the national treasury & the government, holding the country under a political coup, to catapult himself as the country’s defacto president to further cannibalize the country for FVR’s & Gloria Arroyo’s selfish gains. Otherwise, why in the world had FVR’s cases brought about by the “Philippine Expo 2000″ & “PEA-AMARI DEALS” been quashed to powder form by the Gloria Arroyo government? Simply put, each is clinging teeth & brawl to power for such shrewd & self-serving reasons.
Both of you can fool some of the people all the time, or all of the people some of the time, but never all the people all the time. In two occasions, I had supported both personalities in their quest for presidency in light of what I perceived as the two individuals’ worth against our country’s inherent crisis & most especially because FVR & GMA had been both madam Cory’s as that of Kris’ Aquino’s candidates. But amidst the current Philippine turmoil caused by PGMA & accentuated by FVR & in view of our survival as a nation as well as in coherence with ex-president Cory Aquino’s call for GMA to resign, we will make sure that our officemates here in Kuwait, friends, family members, brothers & sisters, in-laws, relatives, nephews & nieces & towns mates back home in Mindanao, specifically in Bukidnon, Davao City & Cagayan De Oro City, & in Dumaguete City in Visayas who had been waiting in silence & withdrawal from the public’s consciousness before a final judgment, will heed madam Cory’s call & that Of Franklin Drilon, LP party & the ten cabinets who had irrevocably resigned from GMA’s cabinet for Gloria Arroyo’s resignation.
For GMA & her sycophants of followers & cabinet members, spare those who break up from your mud-riddled administration, including those of your once loyal supporters such as Cory, Drilon, Mr. Abad, Dinky Soliman, Ding Geles, Purisima, Bongcodin, etc. from your carefully programmed smear campaign & black propaganda using government funds because no amount of it will rip us from believing that they had turned out traitors because in our very hearts, soul & mind, they are our HEROES, and you Gloria Macapagal & your cohorts are the greatest CHEATS & THIEVES in the world.
Cory, Drilon, Soliman, Abad, Purisima, Bongcodin et al are our heroes because they had risen above partisan & patronage politics, had broken away their loyalty from their friends out of pristine & pure love for the country, out of the country’s national interest. If Cory & company could endorse a presidential candidate & go against the same person when he or she does or plans something that imperils the welfare of the country or its democratic institutions, then it is certain that Cory et al had not struck any deals with those that they had endorsed, had not benefited in the process & had no strings attached with them compared to those who would stick it out with GMA or Ramos for their own vested & selfish interests. Hence to me, the real test & strength of a true, genuine leader is when he or she goes against anyone — friends or foes alike, when the interest of the people or the nation is certainly at stake, as does Cory Aquino. Noynoy Aquino, Franklin Drilon, Dinky Soliman, Florencio Abad, Emilia Boncodin, Purisima, Lina, Parayno, & the rest of the cabinet members who resigned from GMA’s cabinet on account of her dishonesty & eroded credibility & capability to govern, including those LP members in Francis Pangilinan, Rudolfo Biazon, Nereus Acosta & others who escape my memory at the moment. These men & women had stood tall & up against the power & potential waves of criticisms & smear campaign akin to PGMA’s administration, yet no amount of such tsunami reality, fact or threat could shatter them from their convictions, principles & positions.
Shame on those who senators, congressmen, cabinet members & other influential figures who keep quiet or chose to live with the current political crisis without resolve, actions or reactions because their silence & actuations tantamount to their tolerance of PGMA’s impropriety, lapse of judgment & corrupt regime!!!!
Jonathan sobrang kagaguhan naman yan. Obvious namang ikaw ang bayad eh.
Thanks to buffy for that article! mabuhay kayo Mr. and Mrs. Valmoria! No truer thots have ever been expressed.
I would say, your organizers are not doing their job if ever na wala clang maihanda man lang ng meryenda sa mga nagrarally.
I’d like to thank penpen for sharing my views against Gloria Arroyo, FVR & JDVenecia. Such political triumvirate had not only successfully plundered the country’s treasury thru spurious & shady government deals backed by Ramos, De Venecia & Gloria out of “quid pro quo” as well as had made the presidency & other democratic institutions morally bankrupt, but most important of all is that the same triumvirate successfully placed the country in its abyss -i.e. political turmoil, patronage politics, institutionalization of traditional politics & economic devastation.
Hence, those of us who had the capacity & the will to stand up against this status quo & against this “Gloria-Tabako-JDV” triumvirate hell-bent on extending their Glory in philippine politics despite the obvious lack of trust & confidence from the people & Glory from God, must put a stop to their steadfast resolve of prolonging the agony of the Filipino people. Enough of Gloria, Tabako & JDVenecia. Enough of Tabako’s ploy of offering a solution to the current political crisis by fostering “CHACHA” or shift to the federal system of government because a tactician as he is from the army, we might fall short of Ramos/Tabako’s shrewd & sinister manipulations once again. If we agree with “CHACHA”,we will be allowing Gloria’s, Tabako’s & JDVenecia’s men/partymates who are a majority in the congress to amend the constitution once again for their own selfish gains & extension in power.
After all, how foolish would it be for us, Filipinos, if we allow people like Gloria, FVR/Tabako,JDeVenecia & partymates & leeches, supposedly partt, parcel or causes of the philippine current political problems, to chart or carve for us a constitution truly harboring & reflecting the hopes & will of the general Filipino masses? If we allow such chacha to evolve, we will find ourselves thrown once again to the shadowy & shrewd deals of the Tabako, Gloria & JDVenecia, partymates, et al!
Kaya, we should all make a strong stand in opposing chacha this time when Gloria, Tabako, JDVenecia are still around & continue to think about it post-Gloria, post-Tabako & Post-JDVenecia era!
At the moment, we must make our firm resolve for Gloria to resign & if she insists to stay out of her government clout superimposed by her colossal ambition to cling to power at leech-like at all cost, we must agree & contribute to her impeachment from the office! At present, there is already a multiplier effect on my call for my officemates, friends, family members, relatives, in-laws &townsfolks to vouch for Gloria’s resignation if not impeachment. And on a very positive note, it is growing by leaps & bounds, that is, exponentially, at that!

The signs of the times had been forthcoming, and certainly, the changing of the guards at this point seemed inevitable. All it needs is time!
We had been known as the inventor & propagator of bloodless people power revolt, a revolutionary model emulated by other emerging democratic bastions in the world. But the sad part of it is the realization that despite the two significant people power exercises, the people might have learned & responded, but the direct beneficiary of such a phenomenon, president Gloria Arroyo clearly did not learn the lessons of the past.
Now, the same reasons we had used to oust Erap devoured & haunted Gloria Arroyo like vampires & ghosts on a rampaging spree. This 180 degree turn of events brought about by Gloria Arroyo’s so called lapse of judgment in calling Garci, a comelec official under the guise of protecting her votes yet reeks of her grotesque ambition to stay in office & the countless & endless incidents & cases linking her husband, son & brother-in-law as beneficiaries of jueteng & reasons for its proliferation in the country had truly devastated not only her moral ability & credibility to govern the country, but our beloved Philippines as well.
Gloria’s admission that she indeed was the lady’s voice on the tape talking to commissioner Garci for protection of her votes had eroded the people’s trust on her to govern the country, and on a landslide at that. For who among us in his or her sane mind would trust someone to manage or budget our finances to secure our future in the long term if that same person could not be trusted in the first place? How on earth could we count on somebody to govern for us & ask for our personal sacrifices when she herself says one thing & does otherwise? How could she lead by example if what she had allowed us to perceive or see of her is that of someone who would ask her followers to do what is right while she is at liberty to do its opposite?
Everyone talks about forgiveness, especially those who had vouched & benefited from her. After all, so they say, that if God can forgive, why can’t we. But of course, to err is human & to forgive is divine. But lest we forget, this is not just about running a mere organization or a family, this is running the Philippine government where as a constituent, we believe or are conditioned to believe that the president, if he or she cannot measure up close to being a saint, must at least be the least evil amongst the contenders to the position or among anyone of us in the spirit of leadership by example & moral ascendancy. Sad to say, such qualities & traits had deserted Gloria Arroyo & that there is no doubt she will end up immune & bankrupt from these all along.
Hence, even if the president, along with her men, followers & beneficiaries will summon all the strength that she could muster to get her out from the current crisis, all efforts will be doomed & will just take her away from the frying pan to end up in the fire. This is because one could cheat anyone including oneself thru self-denial & pretense but could Gloria fool around with the truth & God for long?
The indicators are now pouring in. Resignations among Gloria’s own trusted men & women, the deepened divisions of the society, the day-to-day strikes elsewhere founded on all sorts of grievances, & most especially, the further devaluation of the peso which comes on the heels of the latest downgrading we received from international credit institutions such as Moody’s following that of the Philippines’ outlook this week by Standard & Poor’s and Fitch Ratings, who also cited the crisis facing President Arroyo over allegations of electoral fraud and graft involving her family members. Such would tantamount to an interest of several billions of pesos for credits & transactions entered into by the Arroyo government by now which could have translated as additional schools, classrooms, electricity-operated areas, bridges, roads, irrigation systems befitting all the Filipinos.
Hence, the succession of calls asking Gloria to make the supreme sacrifice by resigning her office to arrest the country’s further devastation & decline. But Gloria, true to her character, balks at the suggestion, which even helped me arrive at a conclusion to sever allegiance from her governance having trusted & voted for her in the first place owing to her credentials, apart from being Cory’s bet. After all, if she truly cares for the country & not just her own vested interests, she would have resigned in the face of the crisis & would have done our country a big favor & her memory would still be one to linger upon as that of someone who had chosen to save the country in the end from eventual collapse out of her own initiation.
Now more than ever, we need people like Cory Aquino, Franklin Drilon Noynoy Aquino & LP party, the Hyatt Ten led by Cesar Purisima, Florencio Abad, Dinky Soliman, Emilia Boncodin, Ms. Teresita Deles, San Juan, Guillermo Parayno, Nicolas & others, who are willing to take the beating by the government’s damage control team ever willing to spurn hot lava & molten magma to whoever goes against the president to the point of calling them traitors, instead of patriots, turncoats instead of men & women of wisdom & conscience. Well, what else is new with Philippine politics after all? Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
I don’t know about how the president, including her staunch supporters like Mike Defensor et al could label women & men of Goodwill, statesmen at that like Cory, Drilon & the Hyatt ten as traitors when at the outset, all you could see is that these men & women stand to lose more counting the government’s finances at embarking on a bloody smear campaign, exhausting all that they could muster & mount against any personalities debunking Gloria’s presidency or advocating for her resignation. These men & women could have chosen to keep quiet & live a quiet, happy, blessed, less-controversial & less-chaotic life. But if they will not talk, who will? If they will not initiate, who else could we trust better? I may not be a lawyer, but experience & logic tells me that the best & most credible witness to a crime is the one who is present & who has actually witnessed or had unintentionally been a part or parcel to its commission. Add to this stance Cory, Drilon & the Hyatt Ten’s friendship to GMA, apart from these men & women’s affiliation with the president personally & professionally and who could not agree with their judgment, perception & advocacy for GMA to resign any better?
Traitors? But on whose account? Against the government or GMA’s selfish interest & leech-like grip to power? Against Michael Defensor’s self-serving & twisted logic? Traitor for having breached the president’s friendship? And especially at a time she needed them the most? But what about the country’s interest, Mr. Mike Defensor? What about the public servant’s moral obligation over their one & only country over which many blood had been shed & lives had been spent for its preservation? If you could see that the country’s welfare & advancement has been held hostage by the same person tasked to advance it on account of her eroded credibility & morality to govern & on the basis of an endless & countless accusations hurled against her husband, son, brother-in-law & party mates concerning jueteng scandals, yet clings to the post teeth, claws & brawl no matter at what cost, or even at the country’s misery, wouldn’t you as a friend care to advise the president to forge decisive & drastic measures to salvage the obvious or cut & cut clean? And certainly, if such advises, solicited or not fell on deaf ears for a while, prolonging the agony of the Filipino people by deviating from the government basic priorities or agenda in exchange of the president’s political survival brought about by her & her party’s insistence, would you impose on those of us & those who do not trust the president to adopt your logic that those who abandon the president in her hour of need are outright traitors who are hated by the Filipinos? You have not only carved your own political downfall by covering lies after lies in your defense of the president & your pursuit of power & political survival but had twisted & given us a new vocabulary to embezzle about. But sad to say, we refuse to sink & dig into your kind of reasoning or we will forever bear the guilt & tirades of our children & our patriotic fellowmen & would allow history to judge us unfairly.
After all, in my own little view, patriotism is best exemplified by anyone who is able to rise up beyond partisan & patronage politics, sever ties against a staunch friend or ally when one senses that the interest or welfare of the country is imperiled by one’s political survival. Most of all, the true mark of a leader who is a cut above the rest is when he or she goes against partisan or patronage politics even to the hatred & dismay of a friend or political ally just to save one’s country at the behest of one’s pure & pristine intentions. After all, patriotism entails a lot from someone towards country than towards friends!
We need more people like Cory Aquino, Franklin Drilon, Dinky Soliman, Cesar Purisima, Emilia, Boncodin, Florencio or Butch Abad, etc., people we call as patriots, no pun intended. These men & women deserve to be known in our history as PATRIOTS, whereas those who tolerate the evil being proliferated against their country, men such as Mike Defensor, Raul Gonzales, Puno, Fidel Ramos, Jose De Venecia et al deserve to be known as SYCOPHANTS & TRAITORS !
