I don’t think Bunye bothered to read the senate report. The only reason why the media remains untouched is because the palance is uncertain how the people and the foreign governments will react.

The administration’s usual rhetoric would be to blame the opposition.

If the only threat to democracy comes from those who don’t respect the constitution, then, the only threat to democracy are those usurpers at Malacanang. PI-Chacha, EO464, PD1017, CPR, illegal arrests, gagging media, lying, cheating, those are real actions which do not respect the constitution.

“The President is committed to maintaining that press freedom?” That’s why they shut off DZRJ’s radio program, raided Tribune, patrolled TV stations and released reporting guidelines for the mass media. Do they really believe on what they are saying, or do they really believe that people will actually believe what they are saying?

“opposition’s irresponsible political efforts are impacting international perceptions” Now they’re saying that everybody else except them are so dumb because they’re getting the wrong perceptions and cannot discern the good news from the palace by the river. Hey, they’vre been mouthing the same lines all along for the local media. And since these “dumb people” are that dumb, it is the fault of the irresponsible opposition.

well, on the other hand, am THANKFUL for Bunye’s continued existence in malacanan.

if he is not around, i would not have known there is truth on the Hello Garci tapes - he eloquently defended its existence and veracity.

also, he clearly mirrors GMA’s political advisers’ mindset - obvious dearth of substance and sorely lacking in historical parallelism. remember how he invoke “the Rubicon” to draw adherents to their immoral Cha-cha? without him realizing, the malacanan spokesperson is as usual, stoking the fire towards the direction off dreaded civil war.

i wish GMA will not serve Bunye his walking papers, altogether. in this way, he is my best bet that the usurper in malacanan will self-destruct without any iota of doubt.

They are so used to manipulating, intimadating and bribing people that they really believe that they can fool all the people all the time. And now they are trying to influence the NYTimes. I won’t be surprised if they hire lobby groups to do this. Can’t wait to see how NYT will react to all this.

Give Bunye a break, he’s just doing his job. Remember comical Ali? He was Saddam Hussein’s spokesman and he was still very confident of Iraq’s success against the US even when his country was already crumbling to pieces! Toting Bunye’s job description is such. Kawawa naman.

Between New York Times and gloria arroyo &company, WHO HAS CREDIBILITY?

Sorry, the NYT is not Manila Times, Philippine Star or Manila Bulletin.
Neither the NYT can be coerced and intimidated.
The negative report is no handy work of the opposition and destabilizers.
It only reflects the activities of the people in the government. The NYT only speaks of the true state of the Phillippine nation.

The better advise should be “SHAPE UP OR SHIP OUT”

Whether the NYT will give the opportunity to “the Administration to present its side of the story to the readers of the Times” remains to be seen.

Although a Liberal daily, the NYT has not been known to print irresponsible stories, most especially in its Editorial section. NYT is one of the most respectable dailies in the world; not to mention, it gives one a peek to the views of America.

On another side, the NYT Editorial simply gave a VOICE TO THE MAJORITY OF FILIPINOS who want GLUE-RIA OUT. Hopefully, the world will hear our cry, and just maybe what is about to unfold will be “a story that is far different than” Bunye’s Statement, or a Malacanan spin.

Gloria’s daily activities are no way presidential. She’s all over the country CAMPAIGNING for SURVIVAL not for the country but for herself!!! Agree ako diyan. Basta ba di kritikal sa administration, alive and kicking pa. Kung kritikal, either tigok, 50-50 dahil sa death threats, ilalagay sa payroll, o ite-take over.

If we racall, NEW YORK TIMES WAS PARTLY responsible in the Nixon fall in the 70s when it published the “PENTAGON PAPERS”

The Nixon and gloria affairs has some identical similarities. Both utilized cover ups, wire tapping, obstruction, used the bureau of investigation, the intelligence service,derailed lawful inquiries, made false statements, meaning he lied too.

The only difference is that Nixon DID NOT talk to an election officer in his 1972 re-election bid . ANOTHER big difference is that Nixon won FAIR AND SQUARE 60% popular votes.
Nixon resigned in 09August1974, avoiding impeachment.

The New York Times report during the Nixon controversy were credible and factual? Need I say more?

No one can dictate the NY Times of what opinion they can choose to publish… Their credibility to the whole world is uncomparable to the credibility of Bunye… I think this is a wake up call to the Arroyo Administration to respect the rights of Filipino people especially the media..
